Project description
Born out of one simple question: How can Headington continue to support creatives of color not just in this moment but for the long term? Shifting The Gaze features four site-specific installations by Dallas-based artists Abi Salami, Molly Sydnor, Kayla Faye, and Fred Villanueva. Salami and Sydnor works were installed earlier this summer in front of The Eye. Kayla Faye’s work, which includes images of James Baldwin and Toni Morrison, poetry and designs, results in a visual collage of black excellence from 1619 to the present day which was view on one of Headington’s properties on Commerce St next to Weekend Coffee and The Joule valet lot. Fred Villanueva recently completed a large window installation at another soon-to-be developed building of Headington’s across from Commissary at the intersection of Main and Field that melds abstractions and street art for a colorful and rhythmic piece that traverses a city block.
